What Is Present Indefinite Tense?
The Present Indefinite Tense is also knows as simple present Tense. The simple present tense is used to talk about things that happen all the time or are always true. Its used for Habits, Facts and Routines.
Usage Examples:
- Habits and Routines: She read the newspaper Every day.
- General Truths: The sun rises in the east.
- Scheduled Events: The Bus leaves at 9 PM.
- Universal Statements: Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.
- Stative Verbs: He Knows the answer.
Key Points
For he/she/it subject we add “s ” or “es ” to the base form of the verb.
For I/we/They/You subject we don’t add the ” s ” or ” es ” to the base form of the verb.
We use Do for creating negative and interrogative sentences with I/We/They/you.
We use Does for creating negative and interrogative sentences with she/he/it.
Affirmative Sentences
In present indefinite Tense, when we make affirmative sentences we Use subject and object with the base form of the verb. The structure of the Affirmative sentences as follows:
Structure: Subject + V 1st Form + Object
Examples:
| The sun sets in the west | He rides his bike to work. |
| We exercise at the gym regularly | She cooks dinner every night. |
| The teacher explains the lesson clearly. | The baby sleeps in the afternoon. |
| Birds sing in the morning. | My brother watches TV in the evening. |

| He listens to music while studying. | Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius. |

Negative Sentences
In present indefinite Tense, when we make negative sentences we Use subject and object with the base form of the verb. There is two changes that is we Use do/not with I/we/They/You and we use does/not with he/she/it. The structure of the Negative sentences as follows:
Structure: Subject + do/does not + V 1st Form + Object
Examples:
| The baby does not cry at night. | We do not go to the gym on Mondays. |
| The library does not close early on Fridays. | The dog does not bark at night. |
| They do not study French at school. | They do not visit the museum often. |
| He does not drink tea in the morning. | He does not drive to work. |
